Biology CentimorgansCentral dogma

central cell Also known as the polar cell, this is the binucleated cell in the center of an embryo sac containing the two haploid polar nuclei.

The two central cell maternal nuclei (polar nuclei) that contribute to the endosperm arise by mitosis from a single meiotic product.

This thickening forms a solid cord of cells which sinks into the mesoderm; during the third month the central cells of the cord break down, and a lumen, the nasolacrimal duct, is established.

In angiosperms, the two nuclei of the central cell of the female gametophyte; they fuse with a sperm nucleus to form the triploid (3n) endosperm nucleus.

endosperm A food storage tissue that provides nutrients to the developing embryo in angiosperms; formed from the triploid cell produced when a sperm cell fertilizes the central cell.

largest, most prominent organelle in eukaryotic cells, the nucleus is a round or oval body that is surrounded by the nuclear envelope and contains the genetic information necessary for control of cell structure and function. It is the central cell ...

In corn, and probably other angiosperms, they secrete a sperm attractant which guides the sperm through the micropyle into the embryo sac.
The large central cell, which in most angiosperms contains 2 polar nuclei, ...
