chlorenchyma a tissue that possesses chloroplasts, usually a parenchyma tissue Source: Noland, George B. 1983. General Biology, 11th Edition. St. Louis, MO. C. V. Mosby ...
chlorenchyma plant parenchyma cells that contain chloroplasts in their cytoplasm.
chlorenchyma Parenchyma tissue containing chloroplasts as in the leaf mesophyll. chloride cells Cells in the gills of fishes that are involved in the excretion of excess salts.
For this purpose, a leaf is typically flat (laminar) and thin, to expose the cells containing chloroplast (chlorenchyma tissue, a type of parenchyma) to light over a broad area, and to allow light to penetrate fully into the tissues.
Waste oxygen produced by photosynthesis in the chlorenchyma cells of the leaf interior exits through these same openings. Also, water vapor is released into the atmosphere through these pores in a process called transpiration.
