Biology CiliatesCilium

Ciliophora Division (Phylum) of organisms within Kingdom Protista which use their numerous cilia for locomotion
(cili = eyelash; phora = bear‚ carry) ...

Phylum Ciliophora
The phylum Ciliophora contains about 8,000 species of ciliates. Ciliates move by coordinated strokes of hundreds of cilia projecting through tiny holes in a semirigid pellicle.

Ciliophora The protozoan phylum characterized by members with simple or compound cilia at some stage in their life history; heterotrophs with a well-developed cytostome and feeding organelles; at least one macronucleus and micronucleus present.

Pyrrhophyta (dinoflagellates)
Apicomplexa
Ciliophora (ciliates)
Excavates ...

For single-celled eukaryotes, cilia and flagella are essential for the locomotion of individual organisms. Protozoans belonging to the phylum Ciliophora are covered with cilia, ...
