Endergonic reaction Exergonic An endergonic reaction is a chemical reaction in which the change in free energy is positive.

Coupled reaction The pairing of an endergonic reaction with an exergonic reaction, such as the hydrolysis of ATP, so that the pair of reactions will take place under cellular conditions.
Reactions that require energy to initiate the reaction are known as endergonic reactions. All natural processes tend to proceed in such a direction that the disorder or randomness of the universe increases (the second law of thermodynamics).
