Healthy erythrocytes have a plasma life of about 120 days before they are degraded by the spleen, and the Kupffer cells in the liver. The liver also clears some proteins, lipids and amino acids.

Red Blood Cells (erythrocytes)
The most numerous type in the blood.

Erythrocytes -- the hemoglobin-containing cell found in the blood of vertebrates. Euchromatin -- the chromatin that shows the staining behavior characteristic of the majority of the chromosomal complement.

Colored or red corpuscles (erythrocytes), when examined under the microscope, are seen to be circular disks, biconcave in profile.

Red blood cells, also known as erythrocytes, are flattened, doubly concave cells about 7 µm in diameter that carry oxygen associated in the cell's hemoglobin. Mature erythrocytes lack a nucleus.

blood type Characteristic of human blood given by the particular antigens on the membranes of the erythrocytes, genetically determined, causing agglutination when incompatible groups are mixed; the blood types are designated A, B, O, AB, Rh negative, ...
