A unique DNA sequence derived from a cDNA library (therefore from a sequence which has been transcribed in some tissue or at some stage of development). The EST can be mapped, by a combination of genetic mapping procedures, ...
EST Database A complete database report containing all available information on some 2500 human expressed sequence tags (ESTs) has been developed at the NIH National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.
EST, Expressed sequence tag An (usually) incompletely sequenced cDNA. Knowledge of sequence allows the design of a PCR reaction which may be used to test for its presence. Most ESTs have been generated from the 3' UTRs of genes.
EST (expressed sequence tag): A partial sequence of a cDNA molecule. See also STS. Ethology: Study of animal behaviour under normal conditions.
[edit] EST contigs Because of the way ESTs are sequenced, many distinct expressed sequence tags are often partial sequences that correspond to the same mRNA of an organism.
EST: Expressed sequence tag. See sequence tagged site.
Eukaryote: Cell or organism with membrane- bound, structurally discrete nucleus and other well- developed subcellular compartments.
An expressed sequence tag or EST is a short sub-sequence of a transcribed protein-coding or non-protein coding DNA sequence.

Expressed sequence tag (EST) A short strand of DNA that is a part of a cDNA molecule and can act as identifier of a gene. Used in locating and mapping genes. See also: cDNA, sequence tagged site Return to Top ...
clone set Refers to stocks that are available as sets of individual clones such as sets of EST clones.
