Genetic variance
Within a population, the measure of how much of the variation of a particular phenotype is due to genotypic variation (as opposed to environmental factors - see environmental variance).

Additive genetic variance
The proportion of genetic variation that is the summation of the effect of all individual genes influencing a trait. The average effect of substituting one allele for another.

FST is the proportion of the total genetic variance contained in a subpopulation (the S subscript) relative to the total genetic variance (the T subscript). Values can range from 0 to 1.

Typically, published reports will provide genetic variance components that have themselves standardized (for instance in a standard ACE twin study model where variance is partitioned into three components).

2 implements the Multipoint IBD method (Goldgar, 1990; Goldgar and Oniki, 1992) for partitioning genetic variance of quantitative traits to specific chromosomal regions using data on nuclear families.

In the broad sense it is measured by the total genetic variance divided by the total phenotypic variance. In the narrow sense it is measured by the genetic variance due to additive genes divided by the total phenotypic variance.

- The fraction of the genetic variance that is due to additive genes
Adenine (A)
- Nitrogenous base found in DNA and RNA ...

heritability (in the narrow sense)A measure of the extent to which genes inherited from parents determine phenotypes; defined as the ratio of the additive genetic variance to total phenotypic variance; also called realized heritability.

Maybe you'd be better off starting on Drug A if you have one set of genetic variations and better off on Drug B if you have a different set of genetic variance. [This] could be very useful to identify which drugs will work best in which patients.
