ground tissue Includes primary tissues of parenchyma, sclerenchyma, and collenchyma that make up much of the bulk of the primary plant body; function in support, photosynthesis, and storage; also known as fundamental tissue.

mesophyll
The ground tissue of a leaf, sandwiched between the upper and lower epidermis and specialized for photosynthesis.

Not only is vasculature found in the mesophyll, but also the ground tissue of a leaf. Ground tissue comprises the bulk of a plant leaf and is generally comprised of a variety of cell types, the predominant of which are parenchyma.

The ground tissue comprises the bulk of the primary plant body. Parenchyma, collenchyma, and sclerenchyma cells are common in the ground tissue. Vascular tissue transports food, water, hormones and minerals within the plant.

vascular cylinder A central column formed by the vascular tissue of a plant root; surrounded by parenchymal ground tissue.
vascular parenchyma Specialized parenchyma cells in the phloem of plants.
