There are stem cells in the liver that give rise to hepatocytes and secretory cells. There are stem cells in neural tissue that give rise to neurons and astroglial cells and things like that. And muscle has stem cells.

Hepatic Nuclear Factor 1 (HNF1) is a transcription factor that is strongly expressed in the cells of the liver (called hepatocytes). In these cells, it binds to and activates the promoters of many genes expressed in the liver.

The other significant finding in these animals was massive enlargement of the liver owing to the engorgement of hepatocytes with triglycerides. Plasma triglyceride levels were approximately ten-fold greater than control animals.
