Heteroduplex Dna

Biology Heteroduplex analysisHeterogametic sex

A model that explains both crossing over and gene conversion by assuming the production of a short stretch of heteroduplex DNA (formed from both parental DNAs) in the vicinity of a chiasma.

Heteroduplex DNA
A double-stranded DNA molecule formed by annealing complementary (or partially complementary) single-stranded DNA from two different sources.

Heteroduplex DNA
A double-stranded DNA molecule or a DNA/RNA hybrid where each strand is from a different source.
Related Terms:
Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) ...

Also, a heteroduplex DNA or DNA-RNA molecule. Hybridization. The hydrogen bonding of complementary DNA and/or RNA sequences to form a duplex molecule. (See Northern hybridization, Southern hybridization.) Hybridoma.

Heteroduplex DNA Heteroplasmy HeterotrophicRequiring a supply of organic compounds (food) from the environment. [ More ] HeterozygousHaving two different alleles (e.g., A and a) at the corresponding gene loci on homologous chromosomes.

An example is the recognition of heteroduplex DNA by the mutS protein as a means to detect single base mismatches.

Heteroduplex analysis
The study of the mobilities of heteroduplex DNA under polyacrilamide gel electrophoresis. The reduced mobility of heteroduplex DNA compared with homoduplex DNA is proportional to the degree of divergence of the sequences.

Hybrid. The offspring of two parents differing in at least one genetic characteristic (trait). Also, a heteroduplex DNA or DNA-RNA molecule.
