Hfr cell From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search ...
A hfr cell (also called hfr strain) is a bacterium with a conjugative plasmid (often F) integrated into its genomic DNA. Hfr is the abbreviation for high frequency recombination.
Hfr (high frequency of recombination) A cell in which the F-factor has integrated into a specific location in the chromosome, causing it to act as a highfrequency donor of chromosomal genes in crosses with F- cells.
On rare occasions an F-plasmid may become integrated in the chromosome of its bacterial host, generating what is known as an Hfr (high frequency of recombination) cell. Such a cell can also direct the synthesis of a sex pilus.
