Homeotic mutation

Biology HomeothermicHomologies

Are altered in homeotic mutations such as antennapedia, causing abnormal development of the head.
D.
Are similar between mice and flies for both structure and order on the chromosome.

There are several homeotic mutations in flowers where different parts replace others. For example, in one class of mutations, sepals develop where petals should and carpals develop where stamens should.

First, the discovery of homeotic mutations in which one organ develops in a location normally occupied by a different organ. Wild roses, for example, have only five petals but many stamens.

An example of a homeotic mutation is the so-called antennapedia mutation. In Drosophila, antennae and legs are created by the same basic "program", they only differ in a single transcription factor.
