Initiation complex

Biology Initiation CodonInitiator tRNA

Initiation complex A complex of an RNA polymerase, promoter elements, and specific transcription factors that permits the initiation of RNA synthesis.

General transcription factors are involved in the formation of a preinitiation complex. The most common are abbreviated as TFIIA, TFIIB, TFIID, TFIIE, TFIIF, and TFIIH.

The intitator tRNA/mRNA/small ribosomal unit is called the initiation complex. The larger subunit attaches to the initiation complex. After the initiation phase the message gets longer during the elongation phase.

interfere with the formation of the initiation complex
cause misreading of the mRNA.
