Biology InterferenceIntergenic DNA

Intergenic suppressor
Restoration of partial or complete wild-type phenotype by second mutation in a different gene than a primary mutation which resulted in a negative phenotype.

intergenic The portions of a genome that are not considered to lie within a defined gene. Intergenic regions may overlap with genic regions on the complement strand.

Intergenic regions. DNA sequences located between genes that comprise a large percentage of the human genome with no known function.
Introgression. Backcrossing of hybrids of two plant populations to introduce new genes into a wild population.

Related Terms:
Intergenic DNA
Any of the DNA sequences flanking the eukaryotic genes at 3' and/or 5'. The sequences are transcribed but function is unclear.

Intergenic
Involving more than one gene, e.g. intergenic mutations (structure changes of chromosomes); cf intragenic
Related Terms:
Gene family
Groups of closely related genes that make similar products.

Intergenic: Between two genes; e.g. intergenic DNA is the DNA found between two genes. The term is often used to mean non-functional DNA (or at least DNA with no known importance to the two genes flanking it).

"Intergenic splicing of MDS1 and EVI1 occurs in normal tissues as well as in myeloid leukemia and produces a new member of the PR domain family.". Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U.S.A. 93 (4): 1642-7. doi:10.1073/pnas.93.4.1642. PMID 8643684.

We have developed technologies for annotating genome sequences, including intergenic regions and regulon/operon comparisons.
