Jump to: navigation, search
A membrane transport protein (or simply transporter) is a protein involved in the movement of ions, small molecules, or macromolecules, ...

Auxin (IAA) is actively transported into cells by a transmembrane transporter and leaves the cells by facilitated diffusion through a different transporter.

Most ions and molecules would need special membrane transporters to enter or exit the matrix. The cristae, which are the foldings of the inner membrane, increase the surface area thereby increasing ATP production.

This proton motive force created by the ETC is used to power membrane transporters and adenosine triphosphate synthesis by ATP synthase (aka the F0F1 particle). They are used in photophosphorylation and respiration.
