Microbial mats (biofilms). Layered groups or communities of microbial populations. Microinjection. A means to introduce a solution of DNA, protein, or other soluble material into a cell using a fine microcapillary pipet.
An aerial photo of microbial mats around the Grand Prismatic Spring of Yellowstone National Park. Although it cannot be pinpointed exactly, evidence suggests that life on Earth has existed for about 3.7 billion years [8].
See Microbial mats. Biologics. Agents, such as vaccines, that give immunity to diseases or harmful biotic stresses. Biomass. The total dry weight of all organisms in a particular sample, population, or area. Bioremediation.
We know this based on the presence of stromatolites - fossilized microbial mats consisting of layers of filamentous prokaryotes - and trapped sediment that date back to that time.
Using PCR primers specific for two of these divisions (Acidobacterium and OP11) and their subgroups, we have detected both divisions in local hot or warm spring microbial mats and sediments.
