Micromeres [Gr. micro - small; Gr. meros - part]. Small blastomeres found in the animal hemisphere during unequal cleavage of a zygote. They are the most actively dividing cells.
micromeres - small blastomeres; in the sea urchin embryo, the four small cells that result from the fourth cleavage of the vegetal tier of cells (half the cells resulting from that tier's cleavage).
micromere The smallest size class of blastomeres in a cleaving embryo when the blastomeres differ in size from one another. micron (m) One one-thousandth of a millimeter; about 1/25,000 of an inch. Now largely replaced by micrometer (mm).
