How is molecular evolution related to organismal evolution?
Molecular evolution underlies the more complicated kind of evolution that you think of when you think of apes to man.

directed molecular evolution
A laboratory version of evolution at the molecular level that can produce "designer molecules.

To create and screen huge numbers of diverse molecules for potential therapeutic use, Darwin and other biotechnology companies are using promising new techniques such as directed molecular evolution.

[For a brief intro into the theory behind this see Li and Graur, 1991, Fundamentals of Molecular Evolution, Sinauer. There's a little more to it than I'm letting on.
