Mutualism

Biology MutSMya

Mutualism is a biological interaction between individuals of two different species, where both individuals derive a fitness benefit, for example increased survivorship. Similar interactions within a species are known as co-operation.

MUTUALISM
The heart of mutualism is that two species live together in harmony. Both species receive an advantage by working with the other. It's wonderful. It's beautiful. More importantly, it helps them both survive.

Mutualism
Symbiotic relationships in which each species benefits are mutualistic. There are hundreds of examples of mutualism between a heterotroph and an alga.

mutualism
(myoo-choo-ul-iz-um) [L. mutuus, lent, borrowed]
A symbiotic relationship in which both the host and the symbiont benefit. See Symbiosis.

mutualism A form of symbiosis in which both species benefit. A type of symbiosis where both organisms benefit. The classic example is lichens, which is a symbiosis between an alga and a fungus.

Mutualism. See Symbiosis.
Mycorrhizae. Fungi that form symbiotic relationships with roots of more developed plants.

Mutualism: An interaction between two species in which both derive some benefit.
Mutualistic: Conferring reciprocal benefit to individuals of two different associated species.

mutualism A type of interaction in which two different species derive benefit from their association and in which the association is necessary to both; often symbiotic.
mycelium A network of fungal hyphae.

However, mutualism, parasitism, and commensalism are often not discrete categories of interactions and should rather be perceived as a continuum of interaction ranging from parasitism to mutualism.

Instead of digesting the smaller organisms the large one and the smaller one entered into a type of symbiosis known as mutualism, where both organisms benefit and neither is harmed.

A relationship between two organisms that live in intimate contact with each other; includes mutualism (both organisms benefit, they rely on each other for survival), ...
