Nucleolar organizer

Biology NucleoidNucleoli

nucleolar organizer An area on certain chromosomes associated with the formation of the nucleolus.

It is a consequence of ribosomal RNA (rRNA) synthesis: nucleolar organizers , special regions on some chromosomes that contain multiple copies of the genes encoding for rRNA (which is involved in protein biosynthesis), ...

The more or less spherical structure which occurs in association with a particular point (the nucleolar organizer) on a specific chromosome in the nucleus.

These regions are called nucleolar organizer regions (NOR). The main roles of the nucleolus are to synthesize rRNA and assemble ribosomes.

A class of RNA molecules, coded in the nucleolar organizer, that have an integral (but poorly understood) role in ribosome structure and function. RNA components of the subunits of the ribosomes.

The globular nuclear organelle formed at the nucleolar organizer. Site of ribosome construction. An organelle found in the nucleus, containing rRNA and multiple copies of the genes coding for rRNA.
