The fertilization usually occurs in the oviducts, but can happen in the uterus itself. The zygote then implants itself in the wall of the uterus, where it begins the processes of embryogenesis and morphogenesis.
tubal ligation A contraceptive procedure in women in which the oviducts are cut, preventing the ova from reaching the uterus. tubal pregnancy Occurs when the morula remains in the oviduct and does not descend into the uterus.
In humans, for example, motile cilia are found in the lining of the trachea or windpipe, where they sweep mucus and dirt out of the lungs. In the oviducts, the beating of cilia moves the ovum from the ovary to the uterus.
