Palindromic Sequence

Biology PaleontologyPancreas

Palindromic sequence. A DNA locus whose 5'-to-3' sequence is identical on each DNA strand. The sequence is the same when one strand is read left to right and the other strand is read right to left.

Many DNA-binding proteins recognize palindromic sequences. Note that the grammatical usage of this term is differnet than the way it is used in genetics and molecular biology - in gramme r it is used to describe a word string that reads the same if ...

The graphic shows the palindromic sequences "seen" by five restriction enzymes (named in blue) commonly used in recombinant DNA work. [Discussion]
2. Inverted Repeats ...

Restriction enzymes are proteins that bind to DNA in a very specific manner. So they actually recognize the base pairs within the DNA. And typically they will bind to a palindromic sequence, for instance, ...

Restriction endonucleases, (restriction enzymes) Bacterial nucleases which cut double stranded DNA at specific sites defined by short (4- 10bp) usually palindromic sequences.
