pericycle A layer of cells just inside the endodermis of a root that may become meristematic and begin dividing again.
pericycle Root tissue sandwiched between the endodermis and the phloem; it is the outermost layer of the stele; meristematic region that gives rise to branch roots.
In many of these plants the endodermis is discarded, together with the cortex, when the periderm develops in the pericycle.
