PolyA tail

Biology PollinationPolyacrylamide Gel

PolyA tail: After an mRNA is transcribed from a gene, the cell adds a stretch of A residues (typically 50-200) to its 3' end.

A complex of proteins will connect the 5'cap and 3'PolyA tail, and this complex will recruit the ribosome subunits.
There is no Shine-Dalgarno sequence in eukaryotes. Instead, the ribosome scans along the mRNA for the first methionine codon.

3' UTR, 3' Untranslated Region The part of the mRNA which lies between the signal for the termination of translation (the stop codon) and the polyA tail.
