Positional Cloning
Positional cloning is a laboratory technique used to locate the position of a disease-associated gene along the chromosome.

Positional Cloning of Mouse Mutations
Mapping and characterizing mouse mutations are important to understanding human development and disease processes.

Positional cloning
A technique used to identify genes, usually those that are associated with diseases, based on their location on a chromosome.

Positional cloning
Strategy for identifying and cloning a gene based on its location in the genome rather than the biologic function of its product. Usually involves linking the gene locus of interest to one that has already been mapped.

Occasionally, the term cloning is misleadingly used to refer to the identification of the chromosomal location of a gene associated with a particular phenotype of interest, such as in positional cloning.
