Progesterone
Progesterone is one of the steroid hormones.
It is secreted by the corpus luteum and by the placenta and is responsible for preparing the body for pregnancy and, if pregnancy occurs, maintaining it until birth.

Progesterone
A female sex hormone secreted by the corpus luteum that, in conjunction with estradiol, functions to prepare and maintain the uterine mucosa for the reception, implantation, and development of a fetus if fertilization occurs.

A steroid hormone secreted by the corpus luteum of the ovary; maintains the uterine lining during pregnancy.

progesterone Hormone secreted by the corpus luteum and the placenta; prepares the uterus for the fertilized egg and maintains the capacity of the uterus to hold the embryo and fetus.

Estrogen and progesterone stimulate the development of the endometrium and preparation of the uterine inner lining for implantation of a zygote. If pregnancy does not occur, the drop in FSH and LH cause the corpus luteum to disintegrate.

2. Referring to progesterone, or to a drug with progesterone-like properties.

Males and females have receptors for estrogens, progesterone, and androgens in various tissues.

Which method combines the female hormones estrogen and progesterone?
NOT a barrier method of contraception
Good STD protection
Works well with condoms
Diaphragms and cervical caps
Five year protection
Female reproductive cycle
Withdrawal ...

The typical ligands for nuclear receptors are lipophilic hormones, with steroid hormones (for example, testosterone, progesterone and cortisol) and derivatives of vitamin A and D among them.

The corpus luteum secretes progesterone, which prepares the reproductive organs for pregnanacy and maintains the uterine lining. If the egg is fertilized the corpus luteum will persist during pregnancy, otherwise it will degenerate.

Estrogen increases the risk of endometrial cancer but progesterone reduces the risk.

Progestagen A class of steroid hormone, exemplified by progesterone, that prepares the uterus for implantation of the ovum; synthesized by the corpus luteum of the ovary.

Sequences of response elements are required for the functions of the transcription factors. Examples: Estrogen Response Element (ERE), Glucocorticoid Response Element (GRE), Progesterone Response Element (PRE).

Other sterols you are familiar with are the hormones, testosterone, estrogen, progesterone and cortisone. Because these hormones are fat soluble, they can enter the cell easily and do not require special receptors as the protein hormones do.
