Proteasome

Biology Prostate glandProtein

Proteasomes are large protein complexes inside all eukaryotes and archaea, as well as in some bacteria. In eukaryotes, they are located in the nucleus and the cytoplasm.

Proteasome
A protein complex which degrades ubiquitinated proteins.

26S proteasome
The 26S proteasome is used for the digestion of ubiquitin-marked proteins. It is located on both sides of a cell's nuclear membrane and consists of a 20S core protease particle and two 19S regulatory particles.

Proteasomes deal primarily with endogenous proteins; that is, proteins that were synthesized within the cell such as: ...

Proteasome (PRO-tee-uh-some) A cellular machine that digests proteins that have been tagged with ubiquitin for destruction.

proteasome
A giant protein complex that recognizes and destroys proteins tagged for elimination by the small protein ubiquitin.

Proteasomes Large protein complexes that carry out routine degradation of ubiquitinated cellular proteins as well as of those from pathogens.

A component of a cell with the proviso that the component is part of some larger object, which may be an anatomical structure, e.g. rough endoplasmic reticulum or nucleus, or a gene product group, e.g. ribosome, proteasome or a heterodimeric protein.
