Biology Relaxed DNARenal arteries

renal portal system
blood vessels (veins) carrying blood from the posterior part of the body to the kidneys. Oxygenated blood is carried to the kidneys by the renal arteries ...

Renal corpuscle
[L. renes - the kidneys; L. corpusculum - a body]. The filtration unit found in the cortex of the kidneys and made up of Bowman's capsule and a glomerulus.

The Adrenal Glands
The adrenal glands are two small structures situated one atop each kidney.
Both in anatomy and in function, they consist of two distinct regions: ...

dRTA (distal renal tubular acidosis) results from the failure of the a-intercalated cells in the distal tubule of the nephron to acidify the urine.

renal capsule: The membranous covering of the kidney.
cortex: The outer layer over the internal medulla. It contains blood vessels, glomeruli (which are the kidneys' "filters") and urine tubes and is supported by a fibrous matrix.

Renal corpuscles — the initial filtering component of nephrons in the kidneys
White Nodules — follicles in the white pulp of the spleen, containing many lymphocytes ...

renal tubule The portion of the nephron where urine is produced. PICTURE
renin An enzyme secreted by the kidneys that converts angiotensinogen into angiotensin II.

renal
Pertaining to the kidneys.
renal portal system
The system of veins in fish and amphibians taking blood from the region of the tail or hind limbs directly to the kidneys.

Adrenal gland
(Science: anatomy, endocrinology) this gland is found above each kidney and it made up of an outer wall (cortex) that secretes important steroid hormones and an inner portion (medulla) that produces adrenaline (adrenaline) and ...

Adrenal Glands endocrine glands which are located on top of the kidneys and which secrete hormones such as cortisone and adrenaline (epinephrine)
(ad- = to‚ toward; renal = kidney) ...

adrenal gland
(uh-dree-nul) [L. ad, near + renes, kidney]
An endocrine gland located adjacent to the kidney in mammals; composed of two glandular portions: an outer cortex, ...

The Renal Bloodvessels."The kidney is plentifully supplied with blood (Fig. 1133) by the renal artery, a large branch of the abdominal aorta.

The Adrenal Glands
Each kidney has an adrenal gland located above it. The adrenal gland is divided into an inner medulla and an outer cortex. The medulla synthesizes amine hormones, the cortex secretes steroid hormones.

Renal ren = kidney.
renette An excretory structure found in some worms.

Branches of the renal artery that approach the proximal portion of a nephron.

You have a thyroid gland in your neck that controls your bone growth rate and metabolism. You even have a tiny little adrenal gland above your kidneys that releases adrenalin if you get excited. Endocrine glands are everywhere.

In 1989, an amendment to the statute added congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) to the NBS list. At that time, the literature reports that only Alaska screened for CAH (Stevens et al., 1988).

In mammals, which are similar to other complex vertebrates, the renal artery branches into smaller vessels and finally into a capillary tuft called the glomerulus at the entry to each nephron.

This problem set is designed to help you understand renal toxicology of metals. You will learn basic anatomy and physiology of the kidneys, properties of metals, and the effect of metals on the kidneys and on kidney cells.

Cytochrome P450 system Found in adrenal mitochondria and liver microsomes, an electron-transport chain in which the terminal component is cytochrome P450; ...

Smooth endoplasmic reticulum is abundant in the adrenal cortex and the testes where it produces steroid hormones.
The smooth endoplasmic reticulum of liver cells helps detoxify drugs in the blood.

This is usually a result of a change in the fetal adrenal glands, leading to production of abnormally high levels of androgens.

Hippel-Lindau syndrome -- an autosomal dominant condition characterized by the anomalous growth and proliferation of blood vessels on the retina of the eye and the cerebellum of the brain; cysts and cancers in the kidneys, pancreas, and adrenal ...
