SSR: Simple Sequence Repeat. See 'Microsatellite'.

Stable transfection: A form of transfection experiment designed to produce permanent lines of cultured cells with a new gene inserted into their genome.

ISSR (for inter-simple sequence repeat) is a general term for a genome region between microsatellite loci. The complementary sequences to two neighboring microsatelites are used as PCR primers; the variable region between them gets amplified.

Perry Cregan (USDA, ARS) and others reported continued success with simple sequence repeats, which are small sequence patterns that are repeated at variable lengths.

Typically the differences are due to small insertions/deletions such as those caused by differences in the number of simple sequence repeats.
