Fucus is a brown alga differentiated into a floating "blade", flotation bladder, stalk (or stipe) and basal holdfast.
The whole algal specimen should be collected, that is the holdfast, stipe and lamina. Specimens of algae reproducing will be the more useful for identification and research. When collected the details of the location and site should be noted.
