systematics -- Field of biology that deals with the diversity of life. Systematics is usually divided into the two areas of phylogenetics and taxonomy.

Systematics
A phylogenetic tree of all living things, based on rRNA gene data, showing the separation of the three domains bacteria, archaea, and eukaryotes as described initially by Carl Woese.

systematics The classi?cation of organisms based on information from observations and experiments; includes the reconstruction of evolutionary relatedness among living organisms. Currently, a system that divides organisms into ?

systematics
The branch of biology that studies the diversity of life; encompasses taxonomy and is involved in reconstructing phylogenetic history.

Molecular systematics involves viewing the organism from the molecular level-in other words, nowadays, in terms of sequences of micro molecules, the proteins and the nucleic acids.

Taxonomy used to be called Systematics. That system grouped animals and plants by characteristics and relationships. Scientists looked at the characteristics (traits) that each organism had in common.

This scientific classification should reflect the evolutionary trees (phylogenetic trees) of the different organisms. Such classifications are the province of the disciplines of systematics and taxonomy.

Systematics The field of science dealing with the diversity of life and the relationships of life's component organisms.
Taxon One or more organisms that belong to the same taxonomic unit.
Taxonomy The field of science that classifies life.
