Transgenic Animals A transgenic animal is one that carries a foreign gene that has been deliberately inserted into its genome. The foreign gene is constructed using recombinant DNA methodology.
Transgenic mouse A mouse which carries experimentally introduced DNA in its genome. Linear DNA is injected into a fertilized embryo at the pro-nuclear stage and may be incorporated into the genome.

Transgenic Transgenic means that one or more DNA sequences from another species have been introduced by artificial means.

Transgenic Mice One of the approaches for determining the biological function of newly identified genes uses YAC transgenic mice.
transgenic [L. trans, across + formare, to shape] Having artificially altered genetic material.
Transgenic Plants The only plasmid that plant cells take up is the Ti (tumor-inducing) plasmid from the bacterium Agrobacterium. The plasmid transferred by this bacterium causes plants to form a gall.
Transgenic: Containing genes altered by insertion of DNA from an unrelated organism. Taking genes from one species and inserting them into another species to get that trait expressed in the offspring.
Transgenic Crops The development of transgenic crops (genetically modified crops) might be an extremely important concept for the future. Malnutrition and disease are very common problems faced by people in less developed countries.
transgenic (adj.) - of an organism, having DNA artificially inserted into the genome. transient (adj.) - short-lived or temporary ...
Transgenic animal An animal (nearly always a mouse) into the genome of which a foreign gene has been introduced.
Transgenic. An organism in which a foreign DNA gene (a transgene) is incorporated into its genome early in de- velopment.
Transgenic An experimentally produced organism in which DNA has been artificially introduced and incorporated into the organism's germ line, usually by injecting the foreign DNA into the nucleus of a fertilized embryo. [Talking Glossary] ...
Transgenic Containing foreign DNA eg. transgenic mice contain foreign (eg. human) DNA sequences in addition to the complete mouse genome. Related Terms: Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) ...
Transgenic organism - A genetically engineered organism to which gene(s) from unrelated or related species or family have been introduced and have become part of its genome Transition mutation ...
transgenics and overexpression mapping, cloning, and sequencing gene expression measuring spatial and temporal regulation cDNAs ...
transgenic Cells or organisms that contain genes that were inserted into them from other organisms using the techniques of genetic engineering.
TRANSGENIC - An animal (usually a mouse) or plant into which a foreign gene has been introduced in the germ line. An example: transgenic mice expressing the human receptor for poliovirus are susceptible to human polioviruses.
Transgenic mouse: A mouse which carries experimentally introduced DNA. The procedure by which one makes a transgenic mouse involves the injection of DNA into a fertilized embryo at the pro-nuclear stage.
A transgenic construction inserted in a chromosome which is used to identify tissue-specific enhancers in the genome.
A transgenic animal simply has a trangene of interest within its genomic makeup. A cloned animal is developed through nuclear transfer, and typically has a common genetic profile with another animals.
See Transgenic. Transgenic. An organism in which a foreign DNA gene (a transgene) is incorporated into its genome early in de- velopment.
Experiments with transgenic animals have already given us some key pieces of information about the regulatory mechanisms that determine what sort of photoreceptor a retinal precursor cell will become.
Bacillus thuringiensis: This bacteria is pathogenic to insects and the gene for its toxin is used to create transgenic plants with their own insecticide. Bacteriophage: A virus that infects a bacterium.
a species of Lepidopteran insect, also called the tobacco hornworm moth. The caterpillars, which are very large, are used in studies of ion transport, moulting and as a system for transgenic gene Expression (see baculovirus).
TransgenicRefers to an organism which carries a stable copy of a gene originating from another species introduced by DNA technology.
Transgenic organism -- one into which a cloned genetic material has been experimentally transferred, a subset of these foreign gene express themselves in their offspring.
