Boomkin
A small outrigger over the stern of a boat.
Bosun
Also boatswain, bos'n, bo's'n, and bo'sun, all of which are pronounced "bow-sun." A crew member responsible for keeping the hull, rigging and sails in repair.

boomkin: a device extending from the stern-somewhat as a bowspit extends from the bow-that carries a sheet block for the mizzen.

BOBSTAY A chain, wire-rope, or rod supporting a bowsprit or boomkin against upward pull. BOLTROPE Rope sewn along one or more edges of a sail to strengthen it and take some of the stress of the cloth when it is stretched tightly.

Boomkin: A Pole or spar that extends from the stern.

A single topping lift should be fitted with an eye splice to the end of the boom and rove through a block at the masthead and belayed to a cleat on the mast. The main sheet should travel on an iron horse. A short boomkin, with forestay and bobstay, ...

Boomkin: A spar projecting from the stern to which is attached a backstay or sheet.
Boom Vang: Any system used to hold the boom down. This is useful for maintaining proper sail shape, particularly when running or on a broad reach.
