catenary - The sag in a line strung between two points.
caulking - Material used to seal the seams in a wooden vessel, making it watertight.

 


Catenary The curve of an anchor cable as it lies between the anchor on the sea bottom and the vessel which lies to it.
Cathead A heavy piece of curved timber projecting from the bow of a ship for the purpose of holding anchors.

catenary - A "gravity induced" rope sag between two points.
cathead - Timber or iron projection from the how of a vessel by which the anchor is hoisted up to the rail, after it has been weighed to the hawse pipe.

Catenary:
The curve (sag) of a rope, cable or chain hung between two points such as the anchor rode or towing line; the deeper the curve, the more catenary.

An anchor sentinel (weighted dolly, kellet) is a weight slid partway down the anchor rode in order to increase the anchor's catenary, or sag, which improves the anchor's holding power.
