jib stay - The stay that the jib is hoisted on. Usually the headstay.
jib topsail - A small jib set high on the headstay of a double headsail rig.

 


jib stay - In schooners the stay to which jibs are hanked.
jib topsail - A triangular headsail made of light canvas set upon the topmast stay above the jib.

Bowspirit- A spar, projecting from the bow, to which the jib stays are attached.
Bring about- To come around, to reverse direction.
Bring to- To stop the forward motion of a boat by heading directly into the wind.

They are single-masted, sharp-built vessels, provided with fore-and-aft sails only, and fitted with a running bowsprit; they have no standing jib stay. Such vessels were at one time generally used for coasting passenger traffic.
