Magnetic course

Boating Magnetic bearingMagnetic deviation

magnetic course - The course of a vessel after magnetic variation has been considered, but without compensation for magnetic deviation.

magnetic course - The direction of a ship's course in respect to true (magnetic) north.
magnetic meridian - A line of horizontal magnetic force of the earth to which a compass aligns itself (no deviations).

Plot a course and understand True and Magnetic course
Keep track of a position either by dead reckoning or with a GPS.

The difference between the reading of a compass and the actual magnetic course or bearing due to errors in the compass reading. These errors can be caused by metals, magnetic fields and electrical fields near the compass.

Three Courses: - True Course “TC' - Magnetic Course “MC' - Corrected Compass “CC'
Through Hull - Where fittings pass through a hull below the waterline ...

The rule is to allow westerly deviation to the left to get the correct magnetic course, and easterly deviation to the right to get the correct magnetic course.

A magnetic course is the direction of the ship's heading relative to magnetic north; a compass course is the direction of the ship's heading based on the ship's compass (including errors of deviation and variation).
