A marina is a port within a sheltered harbor where boats and yachts are kept in the water and where services geared to the needs of recreational boating are found.

Dear Mark,
You want a deflection of about one inch for every three feet of unsupported length of cable. However, I'd inspect your entire steering system to find the source of your sloppy steering.

Entry into the marina should be made at very slow speed, just enough to give you accurate steerage-way. If necessary, disengage gears to slow further. Approach your berth and lose further way by a touch astern.

Factors in choosing a marina are as follows :
#1 Is the water depth adequate for the draft of your boat?
#2 What is the VHF frequencies the marina monitors?
#3. When does the office close and when are staff available to help, if needed, in docking?

The vessel is placed at a marina under a bailment contract with the marina operator, at the owner's expense. The marina operator must be paid a storage fee by the owner or operator upon release of the vessel.

Many marina hurricane plans involve hauling as many boats as possible. Smaller boats and those with low freeboard should be hauled and stored ashore or put on trailers and transported inland.
