Rabbet or rebate (/ˈræbət/): A groove cut in wood to form part of a joint.

--R-- RABBET A groove, depression, or offset in a member into which the end or edge of another member is fitted, generally so that the two surfaces are flush.

RABBET A carpentry term. A cut or groove along or near the edge of a piece of wood that allows another piece to fit into it to form a joint. A dado. RAKE The fore or aft angle of the mast from perpendicular.

Garboard -- The strake of plank next above the keel, into which it is rabbeted and bolted.
Gripe, To -- A vessel gripes when she has a tendency to come up in the wind and requires much weather helm.
