Range
The effective range of a handheld VHF is not only related to its battery power, but also to antenna's height.

1) In navigation, a pair of objects that when lined up one behind the other indicate the channel. 2) Distance to an object. The range and bearing to a waypoint or other point is its distance and the course of it.

Transit
Also called a range. Two navigational aids separated in distance so that they can be aligned to determine that a boat lies on a certain line. Transits can be used to determine a boat's position or to guide it through a channel.

For maximum speed and efficiency most boats are designed for self-steering hull balance thru a heel range of 5 to 15 degrees. If heeling further then 15 degrees you will experience weather helm.

One of a limited range of choices or features that is offered to a customer when purchasing an otherwise basic standard product and that has to be an integral part of the product (used in commercial trading).
