Last warning given by a helmsman before tacking and turning the bow into the wind, notifying the crew that the boom and sail will cross the boat.

Ready About: Command from the helmsman to the crew in preparation for coming about. Equivalent command preparatory to jibing is stand-by to jibe.

A verbal warning to prepare for a tack when sailing. It is followed by "hard alee"("lee-oh"). Compare with "stand by".

Reefing-The operation of reducing a sail by taking in one or more of the reefs.

"Ready about" is the signal given for the men to prepare to tack the ship. "About ship!" or "'Bout ship !" is the order given to tack, that is to put the vessel on the opposite tack to the one she is on when the order is given to tack.

Alert other crew that you plan to tack. The traditional command is "Ready about!" ...
