Rub rail, rub strake, rub guard
A rail on the outside of the hull of a boat to protect the hull from rubbing against piles, docks and other objects.

 


Rub Rails
"Rub Rails" are protrusions on the sides of the hull to protect the vessel from docks, pilings and other boats when coming along side of them.

rub rail - A guard on the hull's side to absorb wear from contact with pilings and docks.
rudder - The control surface by which a vessel is steered.
rudder post - The shaft connecting the rudder to the wheel (or tiller).

RUB RAIL-Same as rubbing strake.
RUNNING-Sailing before the wind.
RUNNING LIGHTS-Lights carried by a vessel under way.
