steeve - The upward inclination or rake which a bowsprit has, or which the plank sheer has forward.
STEEVE - To set a ship's bowsprit at an upward inclination. STEMSON - Supporting timber of a ship. STERN - The upright post or bar of the bow of a vessel.
Note the three-masted lugger rig with the foremast stepped well forward, she will have set a jib from the bowsprit which is steeved up in this picture.
