turtle - A bag in which a spinnaker or other large sail can be stowed with the lines attached so that it can be rapidly raised.
twine - Small line used for whipping other light duties.

 


Turn turtle: To capsize.
Turn-buckle: A metal appliance consisting of a thread and screw capable of being set up or slacked back and used for setting up on rigging.

If a boat turns 'turtle' this means the entire boat has turned upside down. If this happens, you should grab the daggerboard and lean back until the sails and board are parallel to the water. Then follow the procedures above.

DECK, TURTLE A term applied to a weather deck that is rounded over from the shell of the ship so that it has a shape similar to the back of a turtle. Used on ships of the whaleback type and on the forward weather deck of torpedo boats.

Like the symmetric, the asymmetric is often stored in a turtle, with the corners on top for easy access. While a symmetric spinnaker is flown with a "guy" and a "sheet", an asymmetric spinnaker is flown with a "tackline" and a "sheet.

Capsizing is when your boat turns keel uppermost, but a capsized dinghy may be either floating with the mast and sail lying on the water, or may have turned turtle lying with the mast pointing downwards.
