vector - A line drawn to indicate both the direction and magnitude of a force, such as leeway or a current.
vector - A line that represents both direction and magnitude (of force).
The indirect method estimates leeway by subtracting a sea current vector from the total displacement vector to estimate the leeway vector.
Picture a shipboard display system (e.g. radar, ECDIS, chart plotter, etc.) with overlaid electronic chart data that includes a mark for every significant ship within radio range; each as desired with a velocity vector (indicating speed and heading).
Line of Position (LOP) - In Loran or Decca navigation systems, a vector obtained by measurement of the time difference between the receipt of the master and slave signals which is then used to selected a corresponding LOP from a chart or table.
The Far Harbor 39 is built in Zadar, Croatia, in the SAS/Vector yacht facility. SAS was a large-scale builder before the last Balkan War. The Far Harbor project is an impressive example of globalization in the sailing world.
The vector of force produced by the spring line will pull the boat along side the dock. It should be noted that only about 50% of sailboats above 30 feet are equipped with a mid-ship horn cleat (more commonly found on the larger the sailboat).
spring line a line tied between two opposing forces that has a neutralizing effect on the force vectors, such as those creating by surge.
