ADVENTITIOUS BUD A bud that occurs in an unusual place on a tree. APEX The highest point of the tree, this can be a single branch or can consist of a series of small branches.
Shoots on the trunk and at the base of the branches - adventitious shoots - should be rubbed off, except if they are needed. All cuts should be made right against the leaf stalks or buds. Stumps can cause dieback.
Tamarix can spread both vegetatively, by adventitious roots or submerged stems, and sexually, by seeds.
palmatum will sometimes sprout from adventitious buds (dormant buds between the internodes), but it has a very strong predisposition to bud out only at the nodes.

These buds are called adventitious buds. Flowering plants have flower buds or floral buds of slightly different shapes. So to differentiate from them, buds are sometimes called leaf buds or foliar buds.
