A slanting trunk, balanced by a strong first branch that is forced extremely downwards.

Balanced - Fertilizers that provide equal parts of the three primary nutrients - nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium.

Use a balanced feed prior to flowering and then stop when the flowers appear. A low nitrogen fertiliser should be used after the flowering season.

- Ensure balanced pH levels and soil health, and correct if ill health and pH imbalance is apparent. This includes testing the water that you give the Bonsai is pH neutral.

(indoors) Balanced feed weekly through Spring and Summer. Monthly through the winter. Do not feed when out of leaf.

I now begin balanced fertilizing in the spring after the new leaves begin to harden off and continue well into the fall and early winter.

Feeding: Use a balanced feed, feeding every two weeks, from early spring to midsummer. Then again late-summer to mid-autumn. If using a slow release fertiliser then apply early spring and early autumn.

To keep the growth balanced and in shape, pruning is necessary and this is without doubt one of the most enjoyable and satisfying aspects of the hobby.

As branches develop, nip off the growing tip when the branches are long enough, remember to keep the lower ones longer than the upper ones, and to space them evenly around the trunk by removing unbalanced growth.

Adding roast pecans to your well-balanced diet everyday will help you lose Free Weight efficaciously. When you are feeling nostalgic but you do not want to feed too very much, you can just feed these nuts instead.

Young trees: In the spring feed with a high nitrogen fertiliser; in summer, with a balanced fertiliser; and in early autumn, with a low nitrogen fertiliser.

A tree that has a strong trunk and heavy branches will look balanced in a thicker-walled, heavy container, while finely leafed plant will need a more delicate pot to look its best. Colour must also be appropriate.

In the formal upright type, the tree is trained up and tapered with balanced branches. The informal upright can bend and twist slightly. The old bonsai tree art has a front side for the tree.

With the formal upright as an example, you would have a tapering trunk with balanced or proportioned branches. Now, if you went with an informal upright, the difference may include a small bend or curve of the tree.

The essential fertiliser for bonsai is one that is balanced ; that is to say has equal balance of Nitrogen, Phosphorous and Potassium.

They are balanced and mixed to make sure that your bonsai is well drained. Get one that has been "double sifted" which means the big chunks of stuff have been sifted out and the very small particles too.

The slant is balanced by a strong rootage on the opposite side of the trunk. Cascade (Kengai) The impression of Kengai is a waterfall of foliage spilling over the container and down to the floor.

Figure 4. Broom style with nicely balanced roots.
Informal upright
The informal upright should have roots unequally but well spaced about the trunk. With pines a good basal trunk flare may partially substitute for absent roots.

Use a balanced fertilizer on most trees. Flowering and fruiting bonsai need one higher in phosphorus. When you go to a nursery, especially ones into organics, look for products which can supply trace elements.

Use a balanced fertilizer with a fairly low nitrogen content year round, and one with as little (or no) nitrogen as possible in autumn to aid the tree (so the tree can retain its energy) through the winter.

If the bonsai pot is too small, the bonsai tree will look unbalanced, or even worse, your bonsai tree may be toppled easily. If the bonsai pot is too large, our bonsai tree will look small and insignificant.

Feeding: Use a well-balanced time released fertilizer every four to five weeks. You may wish to supplement a time-released fertilizer with a liquid food.

The major three are expressed as a ratio such as 10:10:10 N:P:K (K being the symbol for Potassium), this would be a balanced fertiliser, with about the same amounts of all three major chemicals.

An area of dense branching can be counterbalanced by a strategically sparse area of branching. The same goes with the number of trunks in a particular area.
Forest planting using Black olives (Bucida spinosa) ...

Everywhere on the tree, but mostly from the front, the branches should look balanced and appear to be floating in space; they should not appear lopsided or top heavy.

The formal upright is just as the name suggests, and is characterized by a tapering trunk and balanced branches.

In a formal upright style, the trunk is kept very straight and the tree has a very balanced distribution of branches. The first branch should be the most developed and should be positioned roughly at one-third the height of the tree.

Branches grow symmetrically and should be balanced from every angle that you look. This style represents how the tree will naturally grow in perfect conditions. Trees that are great for this strict style includes pines, spruces and junipers.

Fertilize with a high nitrogen 30-10-10 fertilizer which will give a deep green color to the foliage; apply every two weeks in the growing season. A lower nitrogen fertilizer like a well-balanced 20-20-20 can also be used.

It is very important to choose the right fertilizer: during the early spring time use a fertilizer with a relatively high Nitrogen content (something like NPK 12:6:6) to boost the tree's growth. During the summer use a more balanced fertilizer (like ...

Don't worry too much; what you need to look for is a good balanced ratio where all three numbers are very close to each other, unless you particularly want to boost one of the characteristics promoted by a particular compound in that ratio.

Major branches occur at the angles where the trunk bends, and the apex is aligned over the base of the trunk regardless of the directional shifts in the trunk. Achieving the alignment of trunk base and apex makes the tree asymmetrically balanced.
