Bankan The Twisted Bonsai Technique
It’s commonly thought that the Bankan Bonsai style originated in deepest China at the time of Penjing. This is the original name of the Chinese art form that led to we know as Bonsai today.

The bankan style is thought to have originated in China with the beginnings of penjing, the Chinese art that led to bonsai in Japan.

BANKAN
This most unnatural of all bonsai styles has heavy Chinese influence. It became popular for a time last century and was grown in large numbers.
Although still popular among some hobbyists, it is seldom accepted in classic circles.

The Coiled Style (Bankan)
Similar to the preceding style with the prime difference being that the bark appears to twist and wind it way up the trunk, much like a snake coiling its way up a branch.
