PRUNING BONSAI
If your bonsai tree has wires on it, they will need to be carefully watched during the growing season. When they become tight they need to be removed before they begin cutting in to the bark.

Bonsai is an ancient art form that was first developed in China more than 1700 years ago, before it was adopted by the Japanese during the Middle Ages. Bonsai can be traced to the T'sun and Tang Dynasties, the golden age of learning.

Bonsai comes to Japan
Even though it's the Japanese who get most of the credit for bonsai, it wasn't until the Heian period (794 - 1191A.D.) that Buddhist monks brought bonsai to the island.

Bonsai can be created from nearly any perennial woody-stemmed tree or shrub species which produces true branches and remains small through pot confinement with crown and root pruning.
