Even the bonsai novice, who knows relatively little about this ancient artform, needs at least a few basic tools to practice it successfully. As a bonsai enthusiast becomes more experienced, they can add to their tool collection.

My bonsai tool set arrived really soon after ordering. Each of the tools were individually wrapped, which I really appreciated because it means the tools are well kept. They were all a bit heavy, but this didn't affect their usability.

Other bonsai tools are the knob cutter and the root hook. The knob cutter is used to cut away protruding stubs or wood to shape the surface of the trunk or branch.

Chinese bonsai tools are not made of china, despite their name. Even though china is pretty strong and the bonsai small, a china bonsai tool would not last you too long. They are usually made of metal, preferably steel.

Concave cutters: a bonsai tool used to remove branches with a flush or slightly depression cut. C oncave cutters are one of the most important bonsai tools you can own.

Using appropriate tools
We do not recommend that beginners buy too many bonsai tools till you decide you want to take up bonsai as a serious hobby. You can receive advice and purchase your tools from the Imperial Bonsai Nursery.

This generally means using something like secaturs or a small saw, however if you have access to specialist bonsai tools get yourself a pair of 'wen'or parrot beak cutters.
