Flower with reddish calyx and five short petals Vine Maple samara It most commonly grows as a large shrub growing to around 5-8 m tall, but it will occasionally form a small to medium-sized tree, exceptionally to 18 m tall.
Calyx usually shorter than the half of the corolla. Corolla 4-6 mm. long; petals ovate-oblong or elliptic, slightly reflexed. Stamens slightly shorter than the corolla with filaments 3-6mm long; anthers 0-5-1 mm. long, dark purple.
